Want to learn more about Property-Backed Lending?
Property as an asset class
Property, bricks and mortar, real estate - whatever you call it, it has long played a central role in UK finance. Property-backed private credit builds on that familiarity, with specialist lenders such as Somo providing short-term finance secured against UK property.
â
Somo invests in property-backed loans across residential and commercial property, offering borrowers an alternative to traditional bank lending while operating within the growing UK private credit and alternative lending market.
â
Within wealth management, private credit may be considered alongside other private wealth investments and fixed income alternatives. It is important to compare the underlying structure and risks rather than treating different asset classes as an equivalent.
How are property-backed loans secured?
Property loans are secured against underlying property assets.
If a borrower is unable to repay a loan, the security may provide a route to recover some or all of the outstanding capital.
However, recovery is not guaranteed and can depend on factors including the value of the property, the amount owed, the costs of enforcement and market conditions.
Property security does not mean investments are risk-free.

Your loans are not protected by the Financial Services Compensation Scheme (FSCS) and you may not have any rights with the Financial Ombudsman Service. All your capital and uncredited interest is at risk. Past performance is not a reliable indicator of future results. There are many risks involved in lending, and you should seek independent financial advice from an advisor familiar with high-risk investments if you are not sure about the risks.
